Inauguration of the new facility at Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore

Aravind-Coimbatore, a new state-of-the-art eye care facility spanning 440 thousand square feet, was opened on 29th September 2024.

Padma Shri Award

Padma Shri award for Dr. G. Natchiar, Director-Emeritus of Aravind Eye Care System (AECS). This national honour recognises her distinguished contributions to medicine and society, bringing pride not only to her but also to the institution.

Tertiary eye care centre at Aravind Eye Hospital, Thanjavur

Aravind's Eighth Tertiary Centre, Thanjavur, a historic town, marks another key milestone, and is set to open in April 2025. This new facility will expand Aravind's reach and capacity to serve more patients in the region.

Dr. G. Venkataswamy Memorial Oration and Award Ceremony

Aravind conferred the Dr. G. Venkataswamy Memorial Award 2024 on Dr. Martin Henry Spencer of Seva Canada for his global impact on cataract surgery and vision care; he delivered the Memorial Oration titled "Riding the Wave of Dr. Venkataswamy's Vision: A Personal Journey with Seva and Aravind"

Inauguration of ARCORE Training centre at Aravind Eye Hospital, Chennai

Aravind launched ARCORE, a state-of-the-art training facility at Aravind-Chennai, on 21st June 2024, inaugurated by Rtn Ravi Raman, to offer hybrid skill enhancement through virtual and hands-on sessions, with support from global partners like Alcon, Zeiss, Aurolab, and Essilor.

Hackathon events to inspire innovation

Aravind Centre for Eyecare Innovation (ACEi) organised two Hackathons—one in Tirupati (Aug 2024) with IIT Tirupati and another in Pondicherry (Jan 2025)—where participants collaborated on innovative eye care solutions, developed prototypes, and received awards for the best ideas.
