New Vision centres
New Vision Centres were inaugurated at Thalaivasal (5 April), Harur (10 April) in Salem; Kayathar (31 July) in Tirunelveli; Kilpennathur (17 July) in Pondicherry; and Aranthangi (16 September) in Madurai.
What is happening at Aravind is that its go-ahead practices, which have evolved from its founding to the present day, continue to drive innovation and the development of practical solutions, catering to the eye care needs of patients. Bearing the torch of Dr. V's vision of eliminating needless blindness, patient care at the centre of focus here has led to the continuous exploration of new approaches to work, the expansion of hospital facilities, the opening of new centres in different locations, and reaching out to meet patients' needs in all aspects, year after year.
At Aravind Eye Hospital - Coimbatore, the inauguration of a new, larger hospital building on 29th September 2024 marked a significant step forward in accommodating the growing number of patients. Equipped with advanced features and modern infrastructure, the facility enhances the delivery of eye care, making it more accessible to all.
Aravind–Tirunelveli has renovated its old building to better serve patients through expanded specialty care services. Inaugurated on 8th February 2025, the facility now houses the Retina Clinic, Glaucoma Clinic, Cornea Clinic, Microbiology Lab, Biochemistry Lab, Eye Bank, Regional Research Centre, Ward, Retina Injection Theatre, and Administrative Office.
Aravind-Tirupati launched its first Community Eye Clinic in Puttur, Tirupati District, Andhra Pradesh on 28th May 2024, aiming to serve Puttur and nearby villages
Aravind Integrated Eye Bank Services (AIEBS), established in 1998, works to eliminate corneal blindness through collaborations that promote eye donation, volunteer training, and community-based death notifications. Over half of the corneas are collected through the Community Cornea Retrieval Programme, while 45% come from the Hospital Cornea Retrieval Programme (HCRP) in 15 government and several private hospitals. In 2025, RAIEB launched HCRP at Ariyalur Government Medical College and opened a new eye collection centre in Chinna Salem. It also renewed a three-year Quality Certification from the Cure Blindness Project, USA. Aravind Eye Banks distributed corneas and tissues to 46 institutions and trained 10 technicians and 2 counsellors. Awareness efforts, including the 39th National Eye Donation Fortnight, continue to engage the public in supporting eye donation. A total of 6,816 eyes were collected across all centres. Of these, 2,332 eyes were used for corneal transplantation: 778 from Madurai, 488 from Coimbatore, 451 from Tirunelveli, 377 from Pondicherry, and 238 from Chennai. Additionally, 334 eyes were sent to other institutions: 259 from Madurai, 11 from Coimbatore, 13 from Tirunelveli, 25 from Pondicherry, and 26 from Chennai.
Over the past year, Aravind's outreach camps screened 563,822 patients, with 106,770 undergoing surgeries. To strengthen community engagement, Aravind-Madurai hosted the Sight First seminar with Lions Clubs on 10th August 2024, attended by 139 participants from Madurai and Sivagangai. Aravind-Pondicherry held the annual outreach meeting on 7–8 January 2025 to review progress and plan future strategies. Sponsors' Day 2025 was celebrated at Salem and Pondicherry to honour the contributions of camp and eye donation sponsors.
